An old friend returns to Hannibal to oversee the city’s upcoming bicentennial celebration.

The Hannibal City County Tuesday approved the recommendation of the Bicentennial Steering Committee to hire Dr. Cindy Lovell to serve as the committee’s event director.

Dr. Lovell had previously served as executive director of the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum, and more recently served in a similar position at Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, Connecticut.

As event director for Hannibal’s bicentennial, Dr. Lovell will serve as promoter, organizer and fundraiser for events approved by the steering committee.

Dr. Lovell’s position begins in January, and will run through January of 2020.

Hannibal celebrates its 200th birthday in 2019.
