Intense heat in Missouri unexpectedly took the life of a Missouri police dog this week after the squad car he was in had the air conditioning fail according to a police department statement.

The Arnold, Missouri Police Department shared this sad news on Facebook this week about their K-9 dog named Vader who was left in a police car while his handler made a stop. The report says that the car's automatic air conditioning unit failed while the officer was away.

They report that an emergency alert system is supposed to notify the officer if the temperature in their car reaches a certain level and windows are supposed to automatically be rolled down and alarms go off, but this simply did not happen in this incident.

The update says that Vader was taken to a local veterinary office after the officer found him in the vehicle and his condition did seem to be improving briefly, but sadly he eventually passed away from heat-related injuries.

The Arnold, Missouri Police Department stated that the failure of the vehicle's air conditioning will be investigated. While that's ongoing, they mourn the loss of one of their own. Vader was only 4 years old.
