A website took a look at Apple Festivals across the midwest this fall and one in Illinois took the top spot on their list. Here is why you must travel to southern Illinois to experience a fantastic fall apple festival!

According to the travel website called travelawaits.com, the Murphysboro Apple Festival in Murphysboro, Illinois takes the top spot on their list of 14 Fantastic Apple Festivals to Experience in the Midwest This Fall. If you don't know where Murphysboro, Illinois is located at the southern tip of Illinois near Carbondale, what makes the Apple Festival in Murphysboro so fantastic? On the website they say...

"The Festival is Southern Illinois’ oldest and largest alcohol-free festival, drawing more than 45,000 visitors each year in September. This four-day event packs downtown Murphysboro with family-friendly activities, including free entertainment, carnival rides, pageants, concessions, a car show, an arts and crafts fair, a fiddle and banjo contest, and a menu of apple-themed treats."

If you want to experience the Murphysboro Apple Festival you need to start planning soon because the festival starts on September 14th and goes through the 17th, with this year's theme being "Lights, Camera, Appletime!" check out the fest site here! 

I have to say this apple festival looks like a total blast! And the drive from the Quincy area to Murphysboro is just about 3 and a half hours so it is totally doable for a weekend getaway!
