Long time Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer announces he will resign as sheriff to accept a position in Springfield.

Fischer announced Friday he has been elected Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, effective in January.

Fischer has been a member of the standards board since 2005, having served as both vice chairman and chairman.

The agency is in charge of training for all non-state police law enforcement officers in the state.

The 48 year old Fischer was first elected sheriff in 1998, and was elected to a fifth term as sheriff in November of 2014.

The chairman of the Adams County Board will pick a replacement for Fischer, who will serve until the next general election.
