Repairs to a natural gas pipeline northwest of Bowling Green could take time.

An underground part of the Rockies Express pipeline ruptured January 29 along Pike County Road 43 four miles northwest of Bowling Green.

The incident forced the evacuation of about 50 families for six hours. There were no injuries, but an estimated 181 thousand cubic feet of natural gas leaked into the air.

A spokeswoman for Rockies Express said the company would put a repair plan in place after a cause was found. She said the 17-hundred-mile pipeline from Colorado to Ohio had not had any similar problems since going online in November 2009.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources also planned an investigation and said a public report would be made.
