Workplace Discrimination Law Changes Discussed in Jeff City

(JEFFERSON CITY)--The Missouri House has given approval to a bill which would make it harder for workers suing for discrimination to make their cases. First-round approval was given yesterday to a bill which would require people to prove discrimination was a “motivating factor” in their employer’s action. The current law reads that discrimination only needs to contribute to disallowed actions in the work place. Republican supporters say raising the legal standard would weed out frivolous lawsuits. Democrats say the current wording protects the victims of discrimination at work.
