WIU Student Shot, Classes Cancelled Wednesday
All Wednesday classes at Western Illinois University have been cancelled after a shooting in a residence hall Tuesday night.
The WIU Office of Public Safety was notified that a student had been shot at Thompson Hall just before 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.
About the same time, a fire alarm at Thompson Hall was pulled and the building was evacuated.
Authorities say the shooting was the result of a roommate dispute.
A search is underway for a suspect in the shooting, identified as 18 year old freshman Kavion Poplous, who is considered armed and dangerous.
The shooting victim was taken first to McDonough District Hospital then transferred to another hospital for treatment.
The cancellation of classes Wednesday includes all online and in-person at the Macomb and Moline campuses, as well as extension classes.
