Common sense will direct most people to not leave certain items in vehicles when Missouri temperatures plunge below zero like they have this weekend. But some things are obvious while others are not.

Both Missouri and Illinois have had a very mild winter so far especially as far as temperatures are concerned. That's about to change big time this weekend as both states will see the thermometer nosedive to well below zero and it's likely to stay there for awhile.

Much of the country is in the same boat that we are, facing extremely cold temperatures over the next few days. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 7 a.m. January 7 through 9 a.m. on January 8. Wind gusts near 30 miles per hour are predicted, and wind chill values as low as -20 are expected in our region.

Authorities say at least seven deaths have been reported in Illinois following snow and bitter cold.

As Missourians muddle through another frigid day Tuesday, the worst cold snap in nearly two decades is coming to an end — just in time for more snow.
