The big cats are back in Missouri - officially. The Missouri Department of Conservation has just confirmed two of these big cats have just been spotted in the state in two different counties southwest of St. Louis.

We're not far into 2024 yet and already the year has gotten stranger. This is just one example. After a rash of almost constant mountain lion sightings in Missouri in 2023, these big cats have seemingly just disappeared. Why the sudden scarcity of sightings?

It's easy to let your mind freak you out when you're in the woods at night. That's why I don't blame these Iowa hunters who got spooked out of the woods by what they thought was a mountain lion lurking in the trees above them. Instead, it was something much funnier.

Have mountain lions ever been spotted in northeast Missouri? Absolutely. There have been 3 confirmed sightings I have found including 2 that happened only a few years ago.

I believe there is a perception that mountain lion sightings in the Missouri are on the rise, but is that really the truth. I've looked at the actual data shared by the Missouri Department of Conservation and was truly surprised at what a difference a year makes.

Missouri has had quite a few mountain lion sightings in 2023 already, but most of them happen in the southern half of the state. Not so 23 years ago as one of these big cats really was spotted in Lewis County, Missouri.

The photos unfortunately aren't clear, but one thing is. There's a big cat roaming the fields of northeast Missouri. Is it a mountain lion or just a large feral cat? Look at the pics and you decide.

There are officially no mountain lions in Missouri, but there is a photo that proved one of these big cats really did take down an elk this month and I can prove it.

There are many that believe mountain lions rarely make an appearance in Missouri. Perhaps they should be aware that authorities in the state have confirmed that one of these big cats just killed an adult elk this week.
