By this time, you probably already know this – but the average Thanksgiving dinner costs less than it did a year ago.

In its 31st annual survey, the American Farm Bureau Federation found that the average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for ten is $49.87, 24 cents less than last year.

Of the 12 items tracked by the Farm Bureau, the biggest decrease came at the top of the ticket, with a 16 pound turkey costing an average of $22.74 cents, 30 cents cheaper than last year.

Other items costing less than last year included pumpkin pie mix, milk, a one-pound veggie tray and a group of miscellaneous ingredients needed to prepare the meal, like butter, onions and eggs.

Items that increased in price included brown and serve rolls, pie shells, green peas and fresh cranberries.

This is the first time since 2013 that the Farm Bureau’s survey showed a decrease in the average price of Thanksgiving dinner.
