Authorities say smoking materials may have started a fatal weekend house fire in Bloomington that killed a 72-year-old man.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports James Pearson died early Sunday at a Normal hospital after being rescued from the fire at his home.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling says Pearson "was a smoker with significant health issues."

An autopsy is scheduled to take place Monday to determine his cause of death.

The city's fire chief say an oxygen tank in the home may have accelerated the blaze.

Four firefighters were slightly injured while battling the flames.
