Six Flags Most Underrated Coaster? – Remembering the Jet Scream

When I hear roller coasters at Six Flags discussed, The Screamin' Eagle is the first one that gets mentioned and for good reason. However, I would argue that one of the most underrated thrill rides the park has ever had was The Jet Scream.

There is a chance you're too young to remember The Jet Scream. It debuted in 1981 and was considered the heir apparent to The Screamin' Eagle.

The Six Flags Wiki is one place where you can find some history on this ride. It was 1,942 feet long and reached a height of 80 feet. It may seem somewhat trivial now, but it was one of the first roller coasters I had ever heard of that went upside-down.

I remember as a kid/teenager/young adult in the 80's that the Six Flags routine for me and my friends would be head to The Screamin' Eagle then make our way to The Jet Scream since the lines would eventually lower the later it got into the afternoon.

RCDB remembers that The Jet Scream would get up to just above 47 mph at its fastest and could handle 1,700 rider per hour.

The Jet Scream remained a regular stop for Missouri kids like me until it closed in 1988 as Six Flags prepared to unleash The Ninja in 1989.

Roller coasters come and go, but I always felt like The Jet Scream never did get the credit it deserved for innovating. The Screamin' Eagle has always been the best in my mind, but perhaps its greatness overshadowed what might be the most underrated coaster in the history of Six Flags.
