Food Safety News shared the word that a Cracker Barrel in Illinois is now under investigation by health agencies after an outbreak of Salmonella was connected to 8 people who ate there.

This is the Cracker Barrel at 50 Ken Hayes Dr. in Bourbonnais, Illinois. The Kankakee County Health Department and Illinois Department of Public Health are reportedly now investigating this Salmonella outbreak and have contacted doctors in the area to let them know of the potential for more cases.

As the Mayo Clinic points out, Salmonella can be a mild sickness for healthy people, but individuals with weakened immune systems or the very young or old can experience serious health problems.

Experts warn that these symptoms may mean your have Salmonella:

  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach cramping
  • If you're running a fever
  • You feel sick to your stomach
  • Vomiting
  • You begin experiencing chills
  • Suddenly you have a headache
  • You experience blood in the stool

The report goes on to say that Cracker Barrel closed the Bourbonnais, Illinois location on May 4 and is fully cooperating with investigators to understand how this Salmonella outbreak happened and what can be done to prevent problems in the future.
