Snow is falling in parts of southern Illinois and forecasters say parts of the region could get more than a foot by the time a wintry storm moves through the region.

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky. says portions of southern Illinois should receive between a tenth to a quarter inch of ice in addition to the snow.

Forecasters say areas south of Interstate 70 could get between five and 11 inches of snow, while areas north of the interstate — particularly between Springfield and Danville — should only receive a dusting. But areas near Benton could get slammed with between 10 and 14 inches.

WSIL-TV reports Illinois State Police have responded to dozens of accidents.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.
