(UNDATED)--Violent weather ripped across parts of southern Missouri, leaving residents to clean up after minor damage. Power was cut in various communities as a result of the powerful thunderstorms.

In Springfield, winds thrashed at an estimated 70 miles per hour. City Utilities in Springfield says some 8,000 customers lost power at one point. In southeastern Missouri, officials reported scattered damage to roofs and trees in the Bootheel as the storms struck Monday afternoon.
