Experts Connect Dozens of Foods Missouri Loves to Cancer
The cynic in me is beginning to wonder if there are any foods that taste good that don't cause cancer. Studies like this are the reason. University experts have connected dozens of food that Missourians love to the big and bad "C word".
When clinical dieticians speak, it would at least be wise to listen. Will this change the types of food I choose to eat? Frankly, no. But, I think everyone deserves to have accurate information when they decide what food lifestyle they'll embrace.
This study comes from the University of Texas clinical dietician Alyssa Tatum. There are certain types of foods that she says contribute to multiple factors like blood sugar and obesity which data shows increase the risk of developing cancer. Spoiler Alert: it's practically a greatest hits of foods Missouri people love.
The study claims that beer and other alcoholic beverages damage cell tissue which can alter DNA and has been attributed to increased cancer risk. Missouri's love of beer is more than obvious when you look at the history of native brewer Anheuser Busch.
The study says that processed meats like bacon include nitrates which are said to be villains when it comes to the development of cancer in the colon. Missouri loves bacon? Of course. Everyone loves bacon.
Should Missourians be careful about how they prepare their red meat? The study says yes. It quotes the dietician: “When they are being cooked at such a high temperature, they can produce carcinogens that are linked to cancer,” Tatum says.
The dietician says that ultra-processed foods are a no-no if you're trying to avoid foods that lead to cancer. Donuts is near the top of the list.
French fries bad for you? As I wipe away my tears, I see they are also under the list of bad ultra-processed foods by Harvard.
This is bad news for me and the Doritos bag I'm clutching with my cold, dead hands.
But, aren't apples fruit? That's what I tell myself as I admittedly intake a ton of sugar in that awesome piece of apple pie that the study says leads to elevated cancer risks eventually due to obesity.
World-famous Kansas City, Missouri BBQ ends up on the naughty list for possibly leading to cancer for multiple reasons including red meat and foods with lots of sugar, but boy what an awesome ride it was.
It figures that cookies would make this list since they taste good. Everything that tastes good is on this list apparently.
Aspartame has been connected to cancer in multiple studies, but you wanna know what really isn't fair? The sodas with natural sugars are frowned upon by dieticians, too.
