A southern Illinois man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after admitting he pummeled another man with a baseball bat.

WSIL-TV reports 36-year-old Terry Morgan of McLeansboro was sentenced Thursday in Hamilton County after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated battery.

Hamilton County State's Attorney John Hood says Morgan repeatedly hit the victim Aug. 12 with an aluminum baseball bat.

The victim suffered injuries on his head and body, and was treated at an Indiana hospital.

Morgan also must spend two years on post-prison supervised release.
