Campaign finance reports released this week show the committee has given back $480,000 in contributions.

Schweich amassed more than $1 million to run for governor in 2016 before fatally shooting himself Feb. 26. The committee had about $725,000 in cash on hand as of March 31.

Schweich's death also meant lagging fundraising for his top Republican competitor, former House speaker and U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway.

Hanaway stalled campaigning and canceled fundraisers after Schweich's death. She raised only about $50,000 between January and March.

Hanaway had more than $1.2 million in cash on hand at the end of last month.
