Let's face it. Some Missouri places are better places to live than others. That being said, there are many on Reddit who are warning about 5 places in the state that you really should do everything you can to avoid no matter what.

I saw this interesting conversation on the Missouri sub-Reddit that seems to have been simmering over the past year. Someone asked the question "What is the worst city in MO?" and then the fun began.

To be clear, there are WAY more than 5 Missouri places mentioned and you can read the entire thread yourself if you'd like to do a deep dive, but I'll summarize what they said soon.

I'm always fascinated when questions like this get asked to regular people like you and me and not just an opinion of an editor somewhere who likely has never been to the places he/she is dogging.

Here are the 5 Missouri places I saw mentioned more than others:

  • Sikeston
  • St. Joseph
  • Springfield
  • Poplar Bluff
  • Jefferson City

Honorary mention goes to Kansas City and Columbia although many came to the defense of both places when they were mentioned. Kansas City especially seems to be a love it or hate it destination.

If I had to crown a winner loser, it would probably be St. Joseph, Missouri that received the most hate. Sad that a town with so much history like the Pony Express is now notorious for being a less-than-great place to call home.
