Fugitive From Maine Caught Hiding in Missouri by Marshals
You can run. You can hide, but the long arm of the law will eventually catch you. No law enforcement agency is more successful at finding fugitives on the run than the US Marshals and that includes a Maine suspect who was just found hiding in Missouri.
The United States Marshals just announced this week the capture of a man who's been on the run for more than a year wanted for making false statements. A federal arrest warrant was issued for Gregory Heimann, 51, who was wanted by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General. After discovering that he had left his residence in Maine and headed for the Canadian border with his canoe, the authorities initially thought Heimann had drowned. Multiple law enforcement and first responder agencies spent days looking for his body, but none was found.
The US Marshals did not call off their hunt and that paid off with a tip earlier this month from Missouri
Officers received a tip on August 21, 2025 that a man matching the description of Gregory Heimann was spotted near an Amtrak station in La Plata, Missouri. When confronted, Heimann gave a false name, but was eventually identified and taken into custody in La Plata.

The USMS District of Maine, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, Josh Taylor said: “This investigation underscores the extent of commitment that our Task Force and its partners will go, pursuing those who evade law enforcement. Fugitives will find no refuge. If you’re wanted, regardless of location, we will find you, you will be apprehended, and you will be brought to justice!”
