I predict that I am the only person in Missouri that noticed this today for several reasons, but I can prove that 2 odd earthquakes just shook the Bull Shoals Lake area along Missouri's southern border Thursday.

As I have mentioned before, I check the latest earthquakes from the USGS to make sure the New Madrid Seismic Zone is behaving. Instead of the usual tiny quakes along the Missouri bootheel, I saw two very oddly placed quakes near a different part of Missouri - Bull Shoals Lake.

Why I'm fairly certain that no one else noticed these quakes is because they were small enough to likely not be felt even if you were on the lake right near the epicenters.

This isn't a swarm as they did not happen that close together, but this is a part of Missouri that rarely sees earthquakes. I'm not even sure that I can blame this on the New Madrid Fault either. It could be just some minor plate activity. It even made me wonder if there are mines in that area where a mining blast could explain the quakes.

I share this because it's unusual, but it's no reason for alarm (I don't think). It's just another reminder how how seismically-active and strange the southern Missouri border can be sometimes. Even if you're fishing on Bull Shoals Lake, you're not immune from weird earthquakes.
