Tyson Just Closed an Illinois Beef Plant With No Warning
Workers and those in the cattle industry just received a shock when Tyson decided to shut down a beef plant in Illinois apparently with no warning whatsoever according to numerous reports.
I saw a report shared by CDL Life that was confirmed by Farm Progress saying that Tyson had announced on Thursday, August 13, 2026 that they would immediately close this beef plant located in Joslin, Illinois.

The report says that the Joslin, Illinois plant employed 2,500 workers and the company alerted workers processing would end promptly on Friday, August 14. It goes on to say that displaced workers will receive compensation for 60 days.
The trucking industry site said that the impact on the cattle industry in Illinois would be major as cattle would now need to be hauled hundreds more miles than previously for those in the region. Farm Week Now says that Tyson is expected to base its beef business around remaining facilities in Nebraska, Texas and Kansas. There's been no statement that I've seen to explain why they decided to close the Illinois plant.
As this is a developing story, it will be updated if new information is provided by the company.
