How Bad Will Missouri’s Winter Be? The Secret is in a Spider Web
I have very few fears that I'm willing to admit, but spiders is one of them. That's why I must overcome my arachnophobia to determine how bad Missouri's winter will be because the secret allegedly resides in their webs. Yikes.
There are many that believe that animals have a sense for what weather is about to happen and I'm one of them. I've seen birds scatter just prior to a thunderstorm impacting Missouri. The animals have been given a way to understand the elements and how to survive them. I'm convinced of it. That's why I don't laugh when I see both the old Farmer's Almanac and the new Farmer's Almanac say the secret to Missouri winters are in a spider's web.
Farmer's folklore will tell you that the larger a spider's web is, the worst Missouri's winter will be. Could it be that they're gathering more prey for more harsh winter months when food sources will be more scarce? I do not doubt there's some truth in a spider's preparation.
I've also heard it said that more spiders than normal invading your home is a sign that a harsh winter is ahead. If they're fleeing the outside more than usual, that should tell you something.
I won't even watch movies where spiders play a prominent role, so this is not something I enjoy admitting, but there's likely some truth that Missouri's winter fate may be in the spider's web. Shudder.
