A Pike County, Illinois family was just startled when they saw what just passed by one of their trail cams. It was a huge mountain lion out on the prowl in the middle of the night.

The Lindsey Way on Facebook shared this remarkable capture on their trail cam just a couple days ago.

Are Mountain Lions native to West-Central Illinois?

If you ask the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, they will tell you that mountain lions are not native to west-central Illinois. They also will likely admit that the occasional lone big cat will sometimes be spotted roaming through the region. Mountain lions are very elusive and solitary creatures. While wolves travel in packs and are very social, mountain lions are not. Unless it's a mother with cubs, you will not see multiple mountain lions together. They tend to be very territorial and compete for food sources.

I laughed at the comment by the Lindsey family saying they hope that big cat "keeps on walking". Yeah, this is not a big kitty cat you want sticking around as a furry pet.
