Old Farmer’s Almanac Predicts a Wet, Mild Missouri Winter

I'm all in with what the Old Farmer's Almanac has just predicted for the upcoming winter months in Missouri. They're saying it will be wet, but mild. The question is do we trust their method for forecasting weather that's still months away?

There is some science to back up what the Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting

A Super El Niño is expected to dominate the winter pattern at the end of 2026 into the start of 2027. What that means is a stronger extended and persistent Pacific jet stream which tends to bring storms over the southern half of America. That tends to bring warmer temperatures to the north of that track which would include Missouri if this weather pattern does end up being reality.

Note that this doesn't mean that Missouri will not see winter storms. Just don't be surprised if some of the storms that track across the state produce rain sometimes when in other years they would have dumped snow.

How accurate is the Old Farmer's Almanac when it comes to long-range forecasts?

I recall the two Farmer's Almanac sites claiming an 80% accuracy level, but third-party sites say the Farmers' Almanac and The Old Farmer's Almanac are roughly 50% to 52% accurate. Coin flip, anyone? As for me, I'm a big fan of winters that aren't bitterly cold constantly and don't dump truckloads of snow on us. We'll find out soon enough if they're right about the upcoming winter or not.
