I-70 in Missouri Getting 255 More Truck Parking Spaces
There are few interstates in America that are busier with truck traffic than interstate 70 that goes straight through the heart of Missouri. There are efforts to improve the Missouri part of this route as the state has announced they will be adding 255 additional parking spaces for the big rigs.
I first saw this good news shared by trucking industry site CDL Life. They pointed to a Missouri Department of Transportation effort known as the Improve I-70 project. It says that MODOT has $30 million in INFRA Grant funds to help provide upgrades for truckers along I-70. There's a new update to this project today from the Missouri Department of Transportation that says a contractor has now been selected to move this effort forward. It says the approved proposal includes the following:
- Pavement improvements and parking expansion at existing Concordia, Boonville, Mineola, and Wright City rest areas.
- 255 additional truck parking stalls, totaling 506 available public truck parking stalls across the I-70 corridor.
- 195 car parking stalls and five RV parking stalls.
- Bathroom remodels at the Wright City and Concordia locations.
- Lighting upgrades at all locations.
- 17 acres of pollinator habitat planting spread across multiple sites.
“The KCI Team is thrilled to be selected as the Design-Build Contractor for the I-70 Truck Parking Project,” explained KCI Vice President of Transportation, Brian Mulhall. “We are proud to continue our partnership with MoDOT and look forward to delivering another impactful improvement to Missouri’s I-70 corridor.”
What's next for the Improve I-70 Project?
MODOT says the contract has to be finalized and the contractor will be working on designs. They say that construction is set to begin in the Fall of 2026 and the project is projected to be completed by late 2028. Great news for the many over-the-road truckers that depend on reliable rest stops along I-70.
