Missouri Is Suing Temu Over Alleged Deception of Residents
If you shop using the Temu app, Missouri authorities believe you're being deceived and the state has filed a lawsuit against the company as a result.
Missouri Attorney General Catherine L. Hanaway just shared a statement on social media this week stating that she believes Temu has used deceptive business practices and may also be harvesting your data illegally.
In case you can't read her statement on your device, here's a snippet:
"Temu has handed Missourians a false bill of goods wrapped in discounts and delivered with deception. While consumers were promised savings, the app was quietly harvesting personal data and hiding the truth. We’ve filed a lawsuit against Temu because Missourians deserve honesty, not hidden schemes."
A press release shared by the Missouri Attorney General's office site expands upon this multi-year investigation further:
“My advice to all Missourians is to delete this app. Temu lied to you, stole your data, packaged it up, and potentially delivered it to the CCP,” said General Hanaway. “Our office will continue to crack down on illegal operations that intentionally harm Missouri consumers through deception and unlawful business practices. We will fight to protect Missourians’ privacy and to secure restitution for those victimized by Temu.”
If you believe that you have been ripped off by Temu, you can submit a complaint online at ago.mo.gov or by calling 800-392-8222.
