Missouri Faces Two Rounds of Dangerous Supercell Storms
It would be a good idea to be weather-alert if you live in Missouri over the next few days as forecasters are warning that the state could see back-to-back rounds of dangerous supercell storm development.
This new advisory comes from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center. Their convective outlooks show that there are multiple upcoming days when Missouri has a better-than-average chance for strong supercells. While there are several days when storms are possible, the two most likely to be problematic are Saturday, May 16, 2026 and Monday, May 18, 2026. Here's the advisory area for Saturday from the Storm Prediction Center. The northern half of Missouri should watch out for storms on Saturday.
The NOAA forecasters says that instability on Saturday could "support a
potential for supercells with large hail and severe wind gusts". The day with a much wider area of concern is Monday. Notice that a much larger area of Missouri is in the advisory area for the start of next week.
For Monday, the Storm Prediction Center says "Supercells and bowing
line segments with large hail, severe wind gusts and tornadoes will
be possible". I've seen multiple storm chasers share information they're looking at that support what the Storm Prediction Center is showing.
We're still several days out at the time of this writing, so there's a chance the forecast models can change (for better or worse). As of now, it would be a good idea to be weather-aware for the next few days in Missouri. Make sure you have multiple ways to get storm warnings from the National Weather Service when/if they're issued.
