Let's face it. Everyone is feeling the pain of rising gas prices, but there are certain areas that are being hit harder than others. A new map shows the best and worst locations in Missouri to gas up your vehicle.

Gas prices are changing so quickly, I needed the most up-to-date map that shows where Missouri gas prices are right now. This one was just updated today by AAA. It's their travel map which shows the range of prices you'll pay for gas in Missouri with a breakdown by county of which areas are being hit the hardest by rising petroleum costs.

Notice that it's the eastern part of Missouri and the Kansas City metro area that have the highest gas prices right now while there are many counties in southwestern Missouri that have the lowest prices. Congratulations to the residents of Douglas County which is the only Missouri place I can find with gas just under $4 a gallon at $3.99. Amazing how much mental relief a penny can provide. Oh, wait. Not really.

Why are gas prices cheaper in southwestern Missouri compared to the northeastern part of the state?

Missouri in general has low state fuel taxes plus the southwestern part of the state is closer in proximity to major pipeline infrastructure. What mystifies me is that's the part of Missouri which sees the most tourists, so you'd think that would inspire higher prices, but that's not the case. Make sure you check AAA lowest fuel prices map before your summer travel to get the most affordable gas possible.
