If you're familiar with this part of Missouri near Steele, you might recognize that this New Madrid Seismic Zone quake had an epicenter near Acorn Corner which places it near this farm field just off of I-55.
What is strange is that several people felt this quake even though it happened late at night next to an interstate. This isn't an earthquake nearly strong enough to feel in a moving vehicle and it's late at night in the middle of a sparsely populated area of Missouri. It's worth noting that this has been an active week along the New Madrid Fault with more than one quake per day. That does not mean a larger event is coming. It's just another peculiar uptick of quake activity in southern Missouri that happens more frequently than you may realize.
