Missouri Warns About Fatal Infection Causing Endless Nosebleeds
There's a new bulletin from the state of Missouri warning residents about a virus infection that can cause endless nosebleeds along with other dire problems.
This new alert was just shared by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services this week. It's a warning directed especially at travelers based on a CDC alert about the ongoing risk of dengue virus infections. Cases of this disease have skyrocketed over the past 5 years according to the World Health Organization.
Here are some stunning stats. 2 years ago, dengue infections caused 2,400 deaths. Last year, the fatalities zoomed to over 8,200.
Why is Missouri warning about this disease if there are no cases in the state right now?
This warning is meant for travelers as we enter the warm weather and vacation months. This is especially urgent for those who vacation on cruise lines and/or travel to the US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. Those areas have been hit the hardest by dengue fever infections.
The Mayo Clinic says nosebleeds are one of the symptoms of dengue including severe stomach pain. This is one nasty virus that you don't want any part of and it can be fatal as numbers prove.
As you prepare to travel and enjoy vacation time, this is one of those reminders from the state of Missouri that is good to keep in mind to protect you and your family.
