Missouri Data Centers—How Many and the 7 Largest
There are so many data centers that are now operational in Missouri, it's hard to count exactly how many there are. There are also 7 that are larger than any others in the state which is why the energy demand (and cost) continues to rise for residents.
Let's start with what we know (or think we know). The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says there are "roughly 50 data centers established in Missouri". However, a data center directory (DataCenterMap) lists 91 facilities across Missouri (including colocation and commercial sites). Data Center Journal says there are at least 19 "major" data centers in Missouri being run by 14 different organizations. Let's just be honest and say it's nearly impossible to know the EXACT number of data centers because it depends on what your definition of a data center is. Here are the 7 largest according to the state:

Why should a Missouri resident care about how many data centers there are?
In recent years, utility costs in Missouri have skyrocketed for everyone and data centers are at least partly to blame due to the incredible amount of energy they require to operate. That's not just my opinion either, but that's what Harvard says. The Environmental and Energy Study Institute agrees as they said "as data centers expand nationwide, utilities are receiving hundreds of gigawatts in interconnection requests, necessitating significant infrastructure investments." You should know and care about the stunning increase of data centers being deployed in Missouri. Even if you're not funding their construction directly, you are definitely paying for them one way or another.
