Illinois has suddenly become one of the most dangerous states in America for tornado impacts. New data shows there are 10 locations in the state that are more likely to be hit by a twister than others.

As recently as a couple weeks ago, Illinois had nearly double the number of tornado reports of any other state. Yes, there is a difference between tornado reports and confirmed twisters, but the National Weather Service database shows there are 10 regions in Illinois more likely to see a tornado than anyplace else.

Many meteorologists believe that the traditional "Tornado Alley" that used to be considered Oklahoma and Kansas has now shifted east with Illinois now being a hotspot for tornadic activity. Missouri and Illinois are both now considered to be among the most tornado-prone states in the country. This year, in particular, has seen Illinois experiencing some of the most powerful tornadoes in the country with the EF-3 twister in the Kankakee area included. Illinois has always had a risk of tornadoes, so this isn't totally new, but there is a renewed need to be weather aware if you live in the Land of Lincoln. Your life may very well depend on it.
