Bicyclist Thinks He’s in Trouble Until Illinois Trooper Steps In

A bicyclist who's crossing Route 66 just shared a video that doesn't end like you might expect. He thought he was in trouble when he saw an Illinois State Trooper flashing lights behind him. What happened was unexpected and heartwarming.

Humanrevo just shared a video on social media revealing what happened when he was stopped by an Illinois State Trooper as he was crossing the state on a trek to complete the Chicago to LA Route 66 trip.

While I highly recommend you watch his video as he does a much better job of telling the story, I'll be happy to summarize. The reason the Illinois State Trooper stopped the bicyclist was the fact that he was on a stretch of highway that is much too dangerous for a bicyclist to be on. He first had the bicyclist follow him as he backed his patrol car back to a nearby exit for a road with much less danger for a bicyclist. What he did next really surprised the bicyclist. The Illinois trooper picked up his bike and pack and carried it up the embankment to the other road.

I often see stories shared about incidents where law enforcement makes a mistake or gets a situation wrong. I don't see video shares like this one often enough. It's an Illinois trooper protecting and serving and helping a visitor traverse across the state safely. I believe that incidents like this happen much more often than the bad things. I'm thrilled to be one of the people helping to tell the story of his good deed done.
