A new ranking should serve as a warning for anyone that travels the highways and bi-ways of Missouri. The Show Me State has just been ranked as one of the most dangerous states for drivers in America.

This cautionary tale of vehicular danger comes courtesy of Forbes Advisor. They used five different metrics to determine which states are more dangerous when it comes to traversing its roads. Here's the map they shared showing that Missouri is #4 in America for being dangerous for drivers.

What makes one state more dangerous than another and specifically Missouri at #4? The Forbes Advisor article says that dangerous driving states "tend to have more traffic deaths, attributed to factors such as more rural roads, less stringent safety laws and lower income and education levels". If I didn't know better, I'd think they were calling our part of America dumb...or maybe they are and I'm just not smart enough to understand that?

One thing I do NOT understand is how Illinois ranks so much higher than Missouri in the percentage of speeding fatalities yet Missouri is more dangerous? I'm puzzled. I also don't get how Iowa is considered a top 10 safe state for driving and my wife (from Iowa) would agree that's hogwash.

To the credit of Forbes Advisors, there's a lot of science included in the metrics they used to determine this new ranking. No matter where you happen to be driving these days, buckle up and be careful out there.
