Small Missouri Park Rattled by Surprise Quake Felt in St. Louis
A small Missouri park in the St. Louis area got a surprise early Friday morning as it was rocked by an earthquake that was reportedly felt by many in the region.
Does this small park near Fenton, Missouri look familiar to you?
I saw an earthquake confirmed by the USGS this morning that looked odd since it wasn't in the typical Missouri boot heel area where New Madrid quakes normally happen. They say that at 5:27am Friday, September 5, 2025 a 2.4 magnitude quake was felt near Fenton by 64 people as of the time of this writing.
If you zoom in, you'll see this quake originated at the end of a small park road.
No, a 2.4 magnitude quake isn't nearly strong enough to do any kind of damage, but I was surprised that it was felt by so many so early in the morning. Granted, there are a large number of people that live in the St. Louis region, but a quake in a small park like this should have gone more or less unnoticed. It appears that many felt this jolt and wondered what was going on. Well, I can confirm that it really was a New Madrid tremor since the USGS has reviewed it, but there's no reason to believe that the end is near - yet.
