Have you ever had a forgotten memory suddenly get rediscovered and it brings back a rush of emotions? That's just happened for me as a new video share shows what remains of Dogpatch USA, a forgotten amusement park right across the Missouri border.

My most vivid childhood memories involve my mom and dad taking me to Silver Dollar City, but what I had forgotten (until now) was one summer when we also adventured at another amusement park located just to the south - Dogpatch USA. It was only an hour south of Silver Dollar City during its heyday of the 1970's.

Remembering Dogpatch: Abandoned Park Across Missouri Border

According to their report, Dogpatch USA was born in the 1960's, sold in the 1980's and finally closed by the end of that decade. Rising gasoline prices in the late 1970's hurt tourism to this park as it did require quite a drive to get there. They say that there is now a new owner of the land that used to be Dogpatch and that they will focus on the great trout fishing in the lake there. I sure hope they're successful. I remember Dogpatch being a fun and beautiful place. It would be nice to think that part of my childhood will live on to be enjoyed by others again soon.
