Beloved Missouri Elephant Suddenly Passed Away at St. Louis Zoo
Sad and unexpected news to pass along regarding a beloved elephant in Missouri. The St. Louis Zoo has shared the word that one of its elephants has suddenly passed away.
I saw the St. Louis Zoo just share this sad word on their Facebook page regarding Rani (aka "Ronnie"). Rani was a 27-year-old female Asian elephant who suddenly had an emergency last Friday at approximately 4pm.
In case you can't read the small print, here's a quote they shared:
“We are absolutely devastated. We ask for the community’s thoughts and support during this difficult time,” said Michael Macek, Saint Louis Zoo Director. “Our team of professional animal care experts did everything possible, but we couldn’t save Rani."
The longer statement mentions an unleashed dog that was spotted in a non-public area of the St. Louis Zoo which caused distress among the elephants. Shortly afterward, Rani collapsed and was sadly not able to be helped.
As this is a developing news story, it will be updated once there is new information as to the root cause of what took Rani's life.
