It just became much more difficult to find an Applebee's restaurant in the Kansas City, Missouri area as 8 just closed after the franchisee declared bankruptcy.

I saw this alert from Nation's Restaurant News which said 8 Applebee's in and around Kansas City are suddenly closed after bankruptcy was declared. Let's be clear that this bankruptcy was from the franchisee Apple Central KC LLC and not Applebee's parent company.

The report says that the following Applebee's around the Kansas City area are now closed for good:

  • Kansas City, Kansas
  • Mission, Kansas
  • Overland Park, Kansas
  • Raytown, Missouri
  • Olathe, Kansas
  • Lee’s Summit, Missouri
  • Leavenworth, Kansas

This new development means that if you want to go to an Applebee's near Kansas City, Missouri, the options now are Blue Springs and Northland which remain open.

Applebee's are independently-owned and operated so the fate of other Missouri restaurants rests in the hands of those owners who are trying to adapt to the 2024 restaurant landscape which has proved challenging for many.

Earlier this week alone there were 3 Missouri restaurants from 3 different owners that announced they were shutting down on the same day. Let's hope our favorite food places find a way to be profitable and survive and just maybe thrive.
