This is a voluntary recall by Manzanola Feeds. The FDA issued a bulletin detailing why alfalfa cubes called "Top of the Rockies" made by that company could be dangerous to the horses they are intended to be consumed by. The FDA said the following:

Manzanola Feeds is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Top of the Rockies Alfalfa Cubes because it has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, an organism that can cause severe and potentially fatal toxicity in animals eating the contaminated food or coming into contact with contact areas that have been exposed to the product.

According to the FDA bulletin, it's been confirmed that these alfalfa cubes have been distributed in both Missouri and Illinois.

What do you watch for if your horses have been around these alfalfa cubes?

The Food and Drug Administration says that symptoms can include "dizziness, blurred or double vision, trouble with vocalizing or swallowing, difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, abdominal distension, and constipation". If your horses have been given these cubes and exhibit any or all of these symptoms, the FDA advises they receive immediate veterinary attention.

The "Top of the Rockies" alfalfa products involved in the recall come in 50 pound bags with the code numbers "111222, 111322, 111422, 111522 and 111622". Those codes are at the top and front of the bags.

You can find more details on this product recall on the FDA emergency bulletin.
