Missouri County Among The Most Dangerous Work Zones in USA
With the warmer weather finally here, several road projects are now underway by the Missouri Department of Transportation. However, a new report reveals that one Missouri county has gained a reputation for being especially dangerous when it comes to work zones.

Every time I travel to St. Louis, there always seems to be some sort of construction going on. It can be frustrating, but I remind myself that once the work is complete, the roads will be much smoother — at least, that’s the hope.
A new report from CorradinoandPapa.com shows that St. Louis County ranks 12th among the most dangerous counties for work zones. Between 2013 and 2022, there were 16 fatal work zone crashes reported in St. Louis County.
The national average for work zone fatalities in the United States is 2,366 per 100,000 people. Even one fatality is too many, but over 2,000 is truly heartbreaking. So, what can you do to help?
Work Zone Awareness Week
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will participate in Work Zone Awareness Week, taking place April 21 through 25. This campaign serves as a reminder for motorists to "work with us" by making safe and responsible choices behind the wheel.

It’s also a time for MoDOT to encourage drivers to buckle up and put their phones down. Here’s an interesting fact: reading a text message takes an average of five seconds. If you're traveling at 55 miles per hour, that’s like driving the length of a football field blindfolded.
Just take some extra time when approaching work zones in Missouri, put the phone down, and pay attention so that those working on Missouri roads to make your commute better can get back to their families at the end of the work day.
