College football is underway, and so are the many traditions each school celebrates before or during a game. At the University of Missouri-Columbia, better known as Mizzou, there’s a particular game-day tradition that every student takes part in.

If you’re a Mizzou student or alum, you know that one of the first things you do as a freshman is the Tiger Walk, where your college journey begins by walking toward Jesse Hall.

What Is the Tiger Walk at Mizzou?

That tradition continues with the football team. Before every home game, players take part in their own Tiger Walk. Two hours before kickoff, the team walks across the Pedestrian Bridge and down the South Tunnel to their locker room.

How the Football Team Joins the Tradition

Mizzou games can get pretty wild, especially when they’re up against big schools like Alabama and KU, two of the biggest matchups of the season. Traditions like the Tiger Walk help prepare players mentally for big games.

Why Fans Connect With the Tiger Walk

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a Mizzou football game in person, but I’ve watched plenty on TV. The crowds are always electric, the games are intense, and I wish they showed more of the Tiger Walk. It’s a tradition that adds so much to the game-day experience; even though it’s meant for the players, it also connects with the fans.

And remember, you can listen to every Mizzou football game on our sister station, 1070 KHMO AM.
