"Is this Heaven? No...It's Iowa"
A travel website set out to rank the Top 16 Most Beautiful Places to Visit in Iowa, and no the Field of Dreams isn't ranked number 1, oddly enough the Field of Dreams isn't even on the list, the number 1 most beautiful place to visit in Iowa is the State Capitol Building. The website that did the rankings is called globalgrasshopper.com, and they say this about the State Capitol Building in Des Moines...
"Commonly called the Iowa Statehouse, the 23-karat towering golden dome is a sight to behold for visitors to the state. Designed by John C. Cochrane and Alfred H. Piquenard, this historical state capital building was established in 1886...Ranked amongst the magnificent state buildings of the USA, this alluring building with intricate details makes it a great place to visit in Iowa. The lofty corridors gold leaf gilding and grand spiral staircase set a beautiful example from 19th-century architecture."
They also say that you can take a guided tour of the building when you go to visit.
The Iowas State Capitol Building beat out a bunch of other beautiful places to visit in Iowa including Pella, Effigy Mounds National Monument, The Loess Hills Trail Road, and Pikes Peak State Park, to see the complete list for yourself click here!
I have been to Des Moines a bunch and the golden dome of the capitol building is always a beautiful site to behold. I will say though for all of its beauty I think the thing that I would rank as the most beautiful place in Iowa to visit would be the Field of Dreams in Dyersville.
