According to WalletHub, Illinois is the 14th best state in the country to raise a family in 2024 behind only states like Maine, New York, North Dakota, and Iowa. Illinois ranks 14th which puts it ahead of states that people from Illinois are moving to like Missouri ranked 24th, Indiana ranked 35th, and Tennessee ranked 34th. On the site, WalletHub says...

"The ideal state is one that’s affordable to live in during this time of high inflation and also offers high safety and good job prospects, on top of quality education, healthcare and entertainment... WalletHub compared the 50 states across 50 key indicators of family-friendliness. Our data set ranges from the median annual family income to housing affordability to the unemployment rate."

WalletHub ranks Illinois as the 4th best state in the US for "Family Fun" and shockingly the 13th best state for "Affordability" but Illinois ranks 44th in the "Socioeconomics" ranking, which is comprised of things like divorce rate, job opportunities, unemployment rate, and more. Did they get it right?

I will say I grew up in Illinois and I am raising a family in Illinois and I certainly think there are a lot of states that would be worse to be in. Do I think 14th place is right for Illinois? Ya, I am surprised Illinois is ahead of Florida, California, and Texas, just as surprised ad I am that Illinois ranks behind North and South Dakota...
