According to CBS News, three colleges in Illinois are offering a tuition freeze for in-state students for the 2024-2025 school year. In the article, they say...

"Tuition and fees at all three University of Illinois campuses will remain unchanged next school year for in-state undergraduate students after a vote from the school's Board of Trustees...The board's decision not to increase fees at all three campuses was the first annual freeze in more than 25 years. However, the board increased room and board rates by 5% at the Chicago and Urbana campuses and 1.4% at the Springfield campus."

The article goes on to say...

"The board also approved tuition rate increases between 1.7% and 2% for most nonresident undergraduate students at the Urbana and Chicago campuses and no increase for nonresident students at Springfield."

Should your kids go to college in Illinois?

Now to answer the question at the heart of this...should you send your kids to college in-state? My answer would be yes. Yes, Illinois has many faults as a state, but one of the things that Illinois does have is some pretty special universities. I would be honored if my kids got accepted and went to school at the University of Illinois, Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, Loyola, Depaul, the Illinois Institute of Technology, Illinois State University, and a shout out to my alma mater Northern Illinois University.
