Basketball players of all ages and playing ability can participate in the third H.O.R.S.E. tournament Saturday, June 21 at Norfolk & Southern Multi-Sports Complex, Sixth Street and Warren Barrett Drive.

Tom Boland Ford is cosponsoring the event and providing awards. There is no entry fee.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. and play begins at 9:30 a.m.

Mary Lynne Richards, recreation supervisor for Hannibal Parks & Recreation, said the tournament is fun for all. “This is a non-contact, shoot-around competition for fun — and it’s free for everyone.”

In H.O.R.S.E., one player will attempt a shot of his or her choice. If the shot is made, the next player must make the same shot. If the second player misses the shot, he or she gets the letter "H." The game continues until one of the players gets all the letters H.O.R.S.E.

The bracket will be set up after registration and may be divided into age and gender groups, depending on the amount of participation. No dunking is allowed.

“But since no dunking is allowed, age, gender and height don’t matter,” Richards said. “A 5-foot-2 girl can beat a 6-foot-7 man.”

Rules are posted at www.hannibalparks.org.

Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver during registration.
