This is one of the more curious food recalls I've seen in some time. A Wisconsin company has deployed an urgent recall after a process they use to make their coffee was discovered to have a potentially fatal food poisoning risk.

The Food and Drug Administration just issued this bulletin today regarding Snapchill LLC based out of Green Bay, Wisconsin recalling their canned coffee. The statement says "all canned coffee products manufactured by the company" is under this recall after a process they use was discovered that could lead to the development of the botulinum toxin.

The FDA says in their statement that botulism is "a potentially fatal form of food poisoning". The Mayo Clinic says that the following symptoms could mean botulism is present:

  • Trouble swallowing or speaking
  • Dry mouth
  • Facial weakness on both sides of the face
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Trouble breathing
  • Nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps
  • Paralysis

What do you do if you have any coffee from this Green Bay, Wisconsin company?

The FDA bulletin says you can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or if you have questions, you can call (920) 632-6018 Monday through Friday between 8a and 4p to talk directly to the manufacturer customer service.
