Jaime Garcia pitched eight scoreless innings and had an RBI single to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves Friday night.

Garcia struck out 11 as he topped the 100-strikeout mark for the third time in his career.

Garcia's two-out single in the second drove in Matt Holliday.

The St. Louis Cardinals activated All-Star infielder Matt Carpenter from the disabled list before Friday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves.

Carpenter missed 24 games after being disabled July 7th with a right oblique strain.
