A long time major league baseball star who overcame addictions and has become an ambassador for Jesus came to Hannibal Friday night.

Darryl Strawberry was the keynote speaker at Hannibal LaGrange University’s 75th annual Booster Banquet.

Strawberry was in the majors for 17 years with the Mets, Dodgers, Yankees and Giants. He played in four World Series and eight All-Star Games.

As Strawberry’s career ended, he battled drug and alcohol addictions, got in trouble with the law and had health issues.

He turned his life around, though, and now at age 54, Darryl Strawberry is now an ordained minister and has set up two faith based centers to help people overcome addictions.
