Governor J.B. Pritzker announced Thursday that resurgence mitigation restrictions will be implemented in Region 3, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

Region 3 takes in an 18 county area of western Illinois, from Hancock, Adams, Pike and Calhoun counties on the west to Logan, Sangamon, Christian and Montgomery counties on the east.

Bars and restaurants bear the brunt of the restrictions, which include no indoor service, an 11 p.m. curfew on outdoor service and no congregating indoors or outdoors.

Meetings and social events are limited to 25 guests or 25 percent of room capacity, whichever is less and gaming and casinos will be required to close at 11 p.m.

The measures come as a result of the region exceeding a seven-day positivity rate of eight percent or more for the last three consecutive days.

The mitigations do not apply to schools or polling places.
